The Government has now produced a provisional timetable for the anticipated employment changes that will follow the implementation of the Employment Rights Bill.

April 2026

Changes to statutory sick pay – removing the lower earnings limit and the “waiting days”

Paternity leave to become a “day 1” right

Unpaid parental leave to become a “day 1” right

October 2026

Prohibition of “fire and rehire”

Obligation to inform workers of right to join a trade union

Changes to law on sexual harassment

Obligation to prevent third party harassment

Increase time limit to 6 months bring Tribunal claims

2027

Removal of 2 year qualifying period to claim ordinary unfair dismissal.

Changes to threshold for redundancy collective consultation

Statutory bereavement leave

Additional requirements to justify rejection of a flexible working request

Rights around guaranteed hours and shift work for those on zero hours/low pay.
