Having good policies in place is not just about ticking boxes. Done well, good policy documentation can help the church to keep focussed, treat people well, avoid things going wrong and (if they do) minimise the fallout.
In terms of being accountable to the authorities God has placed over us, very often the two questions the Charity Commission will ask are what your policies say and whether you are complying with them – especially in the event of a major incident.
