We’re looking for people who are willing to use their skills and experience to help Christian organisations and charities to flourish.

Our mission and vision:

Our vision is to provide Christ-centred legal expertise designed to help ministries flourish. Although we’re a fully regulated law firm, we’re also a charity with the charitable object of advancing the Christian religion. We only act for churches and Christian organisations who can agree to our Statement of Faith.

This unique structure gives us the opportunity to benefit from a Board of highly talented trustees, bringing different specialisms and experience from various industries and church backgrounds to the running of our Christian law firm. Our current Board consists of executive (employed) and non-executive (not employed) directors with backgrounds in theology and church leadership, business management and HR, and others with legal and compliance backgrounds.

As a trustee at ECS you’ll make strategic decisions and provide good general oversight of the organisation from a governance perspective. You’ll be key to ensuring we stay true to our charitable purposes and legal obligations. See more information below:

  • The Board meets four times a year, in January, April, July and October. Any materials or required reading are shared ahead of each meeting.
  • From time to time the Board also creates subcommittees which are either temporary or more permanent, with formal terms of reference. Depending on your experience and skillset, you may be interested in sitting on one of these subcommittees, which are likely to meet online a couple of times a year.
  • Our meetings are usually held in Market Harborough, Leicestershire. But we’ve met in other locations depending on the needs of current trustees.
  • Meetings usually last from 10am – 1pm and are followed by lunch together.
  • While we love our trustees to meet in person, we know that’s sometimes not practical, so we always provide an option to join meetings virtually.
  • We will reimburse you for any reasonable expenses incurred through your trustee duties.
  • We ask new trustees to serve for a 3 year term, with the option to serve further terms, but are happy to take into account any need to serve for a specified period.

Particular requirements of a new trustee:

Experience in HR, business or PR would be helpful but not a necessity. There is no requirement to have legal knowledge or a legal background.
